Pike's Stockade was built in 1807. The American flag was raised here by Zebulon Pike.
It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1961.[2][3] The stockade was reconstructed from notes in Pike's journal[4], and is maintained by the Colorado Historical Society. The site is located near Sanford on the Conejos River, about 45 miles southwest of Fort Garland.
